Solar New Year 2014 and Loka Sevanam

AUM SRI SAI RAM

Tamil Agastya New Year (28) Jaya Varudam 2014 – 2015:

Charana Kamala, the Lotus Feet

Om Sri Sai Ram Beloveds,

On 14th April 2014 the Tamil New Year named Jaya Varudam (Year of Victory) will commence when the Sun – Planet Surya – enters in the first degree in Aries. This is the 28th year in the 60 year cycle of Jupiter – Brihaspati, as foretold by Agastya. On Monday 14 April 2014, the Moon will be in Kanya (Virgo) in 2nd pada (part or step of) Hasta nakshatra. The Moon rules this nakshatra which seeks Moksha. The symbol of Hasta is a hand. The deity of this nakshatra (star, asterism) is Savitar, the Sun God who imparts creative and transforming energy. The power of Savitar is to manifest what we are seeking and place it in our hands; hence the symbol of hand for Hasta.

Sri Jaya Samvatsara is the 28th year in the 60-year Hindu calendar. Generally, a person born in this year will enjoy success and be of great valour.

Saturn is exalted in Tula Rashi (Libra) and aspects the exalted Sun and also aspecting Ketu. On account of Sani vat Rahu (Rahu behaves like Saturn), Rahu is also in Tula Rashi and magnifies the effects of Saturn towards Sun. Tula is a vata (airy, windy, fast-moving, fast-thinking, ungrounded, like this) sign, Saturn and Rahu are both of vata constitution. The indications are present for lot of activity in the mind, mind is going too fast, Aries is fire house, and wind (vata) flames fires. First House Lord Mars is in the sixth house (papasthana house – negative effects) and aspects Sun from there (Virgo). Mars adds yet another affliction to the Sun.

Another planet which is not in a good position is Mercury which is debilitated in Meena – Pisces, and receiving direct 100% aspect from Mars and Moon. Very poor position, lack of opportune and timely communications are encountered bringing frustration, lack of initiative and energy, and so obstacles to getting the right message out will most likely to be encountered. Much misunderstanding and blame may come to pass.

From 14 April to 14 May 2014, the Sun will be exalted in Aries. This is a high position for the Sun. On the mundane level, first house rules condition of government cabinet and public health. The Sun signifies King, Prime Minister, people in power, famous people, elections, cabinet ministers.

The effect of malefic drishti (sight) from Saturn, Rahu and Mars will be to affect the position of visible public leaders and extends to threat of loss of position. This will lead to a very rapid 24 hour media reporting cycle driven by Mars (pitta constitution) with Mercury debilitated+affliction from Mars – media reporting is out of personal control – such leaders will feel totally out of control of the media cycle. They may not feel able to manage the public perception of their position and views. Drishti (sight) from Vata planets Saturn and Rahu may lead to defensive and constantly changing statements of leaders. There may be loss of public confidence and hence, loss of position.

A the time of Sri Jaya Samvatsara – Solar New Year – Mars will be in Virgo, aspecting Sun and Ketu as per 8th sight. North East and South East directions will be badly affected, with indications for natural disasters between 17 July and 25 August; Mars will be transiting Swati nakshatra in Tula, and later on, Anuradha nakshatra own house in Vrishikha (Scorpio) ruled by Saturn, creating additional problems.

During this period (commencing 17 July), Mars will transit Tula, which is currently the sign of exalted Saturn. Mars is neutral to Saturn; Saturn views Mars as enemy; this will be a period of planetary war; sparks fly upwards. This makes the situation more complicated for natural disasters.

Loka Sevanam Part 1

The solution we see for loka sevanam (service to the world) is to take up Rudra Homam and Chants at the Prananadeswarar Temple, located in the village of Thirumangalakudi, Tamil Nadu. (In the second part below, you may read of Homam to Pratyangira Devi.)

Prananadeswarar Temple is located in the village of Thirumangalakudi

Prananadeswarar Temple is located in the village of Thirumangalakudi

Overview of Temple:

Thirumangalakudi is known as Panchamangala Kshetra. The name of the place is Mangalakudi. The Goddess is Mangalambika. The tower is Mangala Vimanam. The Holy Water is Mangala Theertham. The Vinayaka is Mangala Vinayaka. Everything in the temple is Mangala.

On the right: the consort, Mangalambika

Lord Prananadeswara is a Swayambu (self-formed), meaning that the vigraha was not made by human effort; it is self-emergent, from beyond time and space – akasha.. It is in Thirumangalakudi temple that even the Planets got relieved of their curses. The Lord has three faces representing human, animal and bird forms; this is not found in any other temple.

Here it is said that Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Protector, Sage Agastya, Sun, Akashvani, Mother Earth worshipped the Lord. There are two holy temple lakes here called Chandra Theertham and Suriya Theertham. There are two Nataraja Sannidhis here. This was renovated by King Kualothunga Chozha in the 5th Century.

Mangal attribution to Murthis in Temple

Once King Kulothunga’s Minister Alaivanar was building a temple from the tax collected without obtaining the King’s permission. The King had him beheaded when he came to know about this. As his death wish, the minister requested that he be cremated in Thirumangalakudi. His wife prayed to the Mangalambikai at Thirumangalakudi and brought back her husband to life. When minister came alive, he went to the temple, embraced the Lord calling him Prananadeswara. As prosperity means a married life till the end (Mangalam) and as it was granted to the woman in distress, the Goddess is known as Mangalambika. Women pray to the Goddess here for long life and the well being of their spouse.

Loka Sevanam Part 2

The solution we see for loka sevanam (service to the world) is to take up Homam to Pratyangira Devi, given below.

Mahaprithyangardevi - Pratheyangira Devi image

The Sri Mahaprithyangardevi Temple is about 3 kilometres from the Uppliappan Temple in Kumbakonam. The deity of Pratyangira Devi is swayambu (came from earth, self born).

There are two sakthi soolini – these are Goddess Durga and Sri Prathyangira Devi; they are the wings of Lord Sarabheswarar (manifestation of Lord Shiva).

Prathyangira Devi is the main goddess of Atharva Vedam and she is also known as Artharvana Bhadra Kali, Atharvana Pratyagira Devi.

This place by name Ayyavadi was once known as Iwarpadi, and in later days it is known as Ayyavadi. According to legends, the 5 Pandavas visited this place, kept their weapons under a tree, worshipped Sri Pratyangira Devi and went around in the forests. As the five Pandavas worshipped here, it is believed that the place was called as Aivar Padi which later changed as Ayyavadi.
